Canon Pixma MX860 Driver Download– The Canon PIXMA MX860 Delivering excellent print quality and great features, this printer is an affordable alternative to cheap laser multifunction printers if you need low-volume printing. The only thing stopping it from genuinely competing with laser multifunctions is its print speed.
The multifunction Canon PIXMA MX860 is optimized for office use, with an automatic document feeder, front-facing paper cassette, and rear-folding tray. However, the media capacity is small, with a maximum of 300 A4 sheets between the two trays. The front paper cassette doesn’t offer a 4×6-inch size setting, but there is room for photo print media on the back tray.
USB and Ethernet connections are provided with Wi-Fi, integrated fax, and media card slots for Memory Stick, SD, CompactFlash, and PictBridge USB. A standout feature of the PIXMA MX860 multifunction printer is the inclusion of an automatic duplex — often absent in inkjet and even laser multifunctions — allowing you to save paper through two-sided printing.
Canon’s multifunction printers have never been appreciated for their print speed, and the PIXMA MX860 continues this trend. It only takes 12.2 seconds to print the first page of a mono draft document and 15.8 seconds for a color document. However, mono draft documents published an average of 10.6 pages per minute in our printing tests, whereas standard quality documents were printed at 7.9ppm.
Color documents are even slower, at 6.4ppm for draft quality and a slow 2.9ppm for a standard rate. Photo printing isn’t particularly fast either: normal 4×6-inch photos took 34.5 seconds in our printing tests, and A4 photos took about 1 minute 40 seconds.
It’s rare to find a Canon printer that doesn’t provide excellent print quality, and the PIXMA MX860 multifunction is no exception. The text is straightforward, easy to read, and free from distortion. However, the characters seem bolder than they should be. This makes text at 7pt more accessible to read but means the printer can’t compete with laser printers when it comes to text at more common font sizes.
The colors are very vibrant, but the text is still legible when printed on a colored background. Blues are a little saturated and can look soggy but otherwise acceptable. Photos are surprisingly neutral in color and accurate. Although the PIXMA MX860 feature set suggests that it should not be used primarily for photo printing, this inkjet multifunction printer has its advantages, even if it may not be suitable for those who want very vivid results.
The colors of the scanned image can be very undersaturated, but the result is detailed enough that this multifunction is suitable for scanning documents. The Canon PIXMA MX860 provides presets that can be used to scan directly from the unit to a PC, USB memory stick, or memory card.
For the price, the Canon PIXMA MX860 multifunction printer is well featured and can handle most tasks in a home or small office. If quality takes priority over print speed, this inkjet multifunction is a better buy than most competitors for the same price.
